Invest in Apple Macintosh and prevent the world from turning into "1984". They present the argument that by not investing in Macintosh, the world is in danger of Big Brother (IBM) in controlling and limiting the computer world. Adding a scene from the film, 1984, makes their argument credible because it had just come into theaters that year and on top of that the book is well known. Everyone in 1984 knew the story and could eaily understand what apple was saying. Apple made an effective arguement this way and the story of 1984 tells it all. The emotion of fear is an obvious elemnt apple uses to thier advantage to get Americans to invest in their company whehter it be through buying stocks or purchasing their product. Apple paints the picture of what America could be through thier choice of color and production design. The dark blue tint gives an erie and depressing look. The people look like zombies, all with shaved heads and the same ugly blue outifts. They all sit uniform; no emotion on thier faces, no diversity. By using this strong image of depression, apple strikes fear into the hearts of American viewers. There is no hope! Then Apple, the brightly colored, brave girl, runs through and destroys the uniformity which acts as a symbol of hope and escape. The American-Hero has prevailed! Americans love the emotion of victory and seeing the foe vanquished in the end. Those are the movies we like to see. Is it logical? IBM did control most of the computer production at that time, so it can be said that it is logical in that sense that apple wants to prevent IBM from becoming a super power. However, whether IBM is going to become Big Brother or not is an illogical arguement. I feel that this was an succesful argument on behalf of apple in persuading Americans to invest in thier company. I feel that elements used in the arguement all worked succesfully to get the result Apple wanted.
